5/8 Extra bases

Ryan Dempster is on the mound Tuesday night against the Braves. He has a 0.95 ERA, giving up three earned runs over 28 1/3 innings in his last four starts. But he’s 0-1. The Cubs have scored seven runs while he’s been on the mound. According to Elias Sports Bureau, his ERA is the lowest for a Cubs pitcher who was winless in his first four starts since the NL began keeping track of earned runs in 1912. In that span, no other Cubs pitcher had a sub 1.00 ERA. Dempster is looking for a “W.” He’s winless in his last 13 starts dating to Aug. 16 of last season despite a 3.67 ERA in that stretch.

* Ian Stewart is batting .381 in his last seven games and has driven in a run in five of his last 10 games.

* Vote for LaHair: Bryan LaHair has reached base safely in a team-high 25 straight games. He has 16 RBIs in his last 19 games with an at-bat dating to April 13. Of his eight home runs this year, four have tied a game and two have put the team ahead. LaHair leads all Major League first basemen with eight home runs.
