5/13 Minor League report – Friday’s games

Travis Wood struck out six and gave up three runs on eight hits over six innings in Iowa’s 6-5 win over Fresno on Friday. Anthony Rizzo, Josh Vitters and Ty Wright each homered to back Wood. Rizzo now is batting .349. All three had two hits each. Blake Parker converted his fourth save, pitching one inning in relief.

Brooks Raley gave up two runs on five hits and struck out seven over seven innings in Tennessee’s 2-1 loss to Jackson. Nate Samson had three hits.

Daytona’s game at Charlotte was canceled because of rain. Daytona had a 6-0 lead when the game was called but it will not be made up because the two teams do not meet again in the first half.

Paul Hoilman keeps on hitting. He extended his hitting streak to 24 games with a double in Peoria’s 6-2 win over Beloit. Michael Jensen gave up one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings for the win.

I’m thinking it is just a matter of time for Hoystein to take the same approach with Rizzo that he took with LaHair, that being Rizzo has done all he could at AAA and needs to be in the bigs, sink or swim, too soon or not, to improve the ML roster, putting LaHair in LF. Better hitters, more pop might equal more wins but even if not the team will be closer to the group that will be here for years to come and we fans will finally be able to move on from watching Soriano spiral even further as Phil Rogers so accuratley points out in Sunday’s Trib.

It’s time for Rizzo now!!!!
