5/15 Extra bases

Paul Maholm closes the Cubs quickie two-game series in St. Louis today, and the team then heads home for another two-game set against the Phillies, starting Wednesday night.

* Shawn Camp won his second straight game on Monday, and is the first Cubs pitcher to win consecutive games since Jeff Samardzija did so last June 13-14 against the Brewers.

* Bryan LaHair has reached base safely in a team-high 31 straight games. Only four Cubs first basemen since 1945 have had longer streaks:

Phil Cavarretta: 32 games, June 10-July 12, 1945

Andre Thornton: 33 games, Aug. 5-Sept. 13, 1975

Bill Buckner: 32 games, April 9-Aug. 10, 1981

Derrek Lee: 32 games, April 2-May 10, 2007

* LaHair’s streak is second-longest in the Major Leagues, trailing the Rangers’ Elvis Andrus (32 games)

* Ian Stewart needs one RBI for 200.

* Pitching matchups against the Phillies:

RHP Matt Garza (2-1, 2.56) vs. RHP Vance Worley (3-2, 3.07)

Thursday: RHP Chris Volstad (0-5, 6.92) vs. RHP Roy Halladay (3-3, 3.20)

* Looking ahead to the Cubs Interleague series vs. the White Sox, it’ll be Philip Humber vs. Samardzija on Friday; John Danks vs. Ryan Dempster on Saturday; and Jake Peavy vs. Maholm on Sunday at Wrigley Field.

Nice to see Lady Luck is watching out for Soriano, he could use some. His “accidental” sacrifice bunt was not the run producing hit fans of any team expect to get from their number five hitter with a runner already at second base but at least it was accidentally productive. Also, he did come through with the go ahead run later in the game which was very refreshing. Still not nearly enough production from Soriano who has proven his star has faded and he is literally going nowhere….fast. Big article in the SunTimes today by DeLuca speculating about the iminent arrival of Rizzo and the move of LaHair to LF which I THINK we all know needs to be done. Soriano may have a chance to salvage the little left in his career if he can catch on with an AL team as a DH.

PETREY!!!!!!! YOUR GUY DID IT! First homer, TIE GAME! Maybe this will be the start of his long overdue streak you refer to? We can hope. The better he hits the better the team is OR the better the chances of him going to the AL. Either way, I am glad that monkey is off his back a few more and I’ll get off it too….

well its one… now lets see if ole Sori can get on a hot streak…. o and thank you dale for blowing the game with 1st base open pitching to one of the most clutch Cardinal players… anyone else a little ticked by that?? or is it just me?

On that one petrey I am completley on board. Is Sveum the only human on the planet that does not know Molina is a sure bet to kill us? FIRST BASE OPEN!!! Come on Sveum, give us a reason to believe you are the one to right this ship! AND, how about Wood having a seat for a while in close games? He can join Marmol on a permanent DL as far as I am concerned. Getting a little old watching our reliever NOT hold a team.

why do we continue to throw out volstad … don’t we have any better option… is randy wells doing THAT bad in iowa

I believe Wells just had a really bad game and has an era of over 7.0
I think Coleman may be a better option??
