6/2 Minor League report
Chris Volstad gave up four runs on 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings in Iowa’s 5-4 loss to Omaha on Friday night. Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters both homered. Jackson had three hits and also a walk, and was batting .256. Vitters had two RBIs which came on his two-run, game-tying homer in the eighth, and was batting .276. Anthony Rizzo, named the Cubs Minor League Player of the Month for the second straight month, was not in the lineup. He has not played since last Sunday because of a sore right wrist.
Trey McNutt gave up one run on four hits over six innings in Tennessee’s 2-1 win over Huntsville. McNutt is 3-4 with a 2.68 ERA for the season. Jim Adduci had three hits and Matt Cerda and Michael Burgess each had two hits.
Matt Loosen gave up three runs on five hits over five innings in Daytona’s 16-7 win over Fort Myers. Micah Gibbs hit his third homer and Nelson Perez had two hits, including his ninth home run.
Daytona’s Austin Kirk, Arismendy Alcantara, Nelson Perez, Greg Rohan and Matt Szczur were named Florida State League Mid-Season All-Stars on Friday. The Daytona coaching staff will lead the FSL North team at the All-Star Game as a result of winning the 2011 FSL Championship. Manager Brian Harper, pitching coach Marty Mason, hitting coach Desi Wilson, trainer Pete Fagan and strength and conditioning Coach Ed Kohl earned the honors.
Michael Jensen gave up two unearned runs on five hits over 5 2/3 innings in Peoria’s 8-6 win over Burlington. Pin-Chieh Chen hit his second homer and Paul Hoilman had two hits and three RBIs.
