6/2 Soler now free agent
Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, 20, has been declared a free agent and now is eligible to sign with any team, according to FOX Sports Ken Rosenthal. He will be subject to spending restrictions imposed by the new CBA, but can sign for any amount prior to July 2. Among the teams believed to be interested in Soler are the Cubs, Indians, Red Sox, Phillies, Yankees, Marlins, Blue Jays and Astros. There were reports in March that the Cubs already had a deal in place with the talented outfielder but GM Jed Hoyer called those reports “bogus.” A power-hitting outfielder, Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship, and batted .304. He defected from Cuba last year.
