* The Cubs struck out 14 times on Tuesday and 15 times on Wednesday. It’s the first time a starting pitcher has hit double-digit Ks in back to back games since 2003 season when Montreal’s Javier Vazquez (14 strikeouts) on April 9 and Tony Armas (11 strikeouts) on April 10 turned the trick at Wrigley Field.

* In total, the Cubs have struck out at least 14 times in back-to-back games (14 on Tuesday and 15 on Wednesday) for the first time since May 30 (14 strikeouts) and May 31 (23 strikeouts), 2003, vs. the Astros at Wrigley Field, though the May 31 game was 16 innings. The Cubs last did so in back-to-back nine-inning games in the April 9-10, 2003, stretch (15 on April 9, 14 on April 10).

* The Cubs have made 20 moves on the 25-man roster in the last 23 days beginning May 16. The most recent moves include Friday when they claimed right-handed pitcher Jairo Asencio from the Indians and right-handed pitcher Michael Bowden was designated for assignment. On Wednesday, the Cubs placed right-handed pitcher Blake Parker on the 60-day disabled list and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Manuel Corpas from Triple-A Iowa.

* It’s back to Interleague action on Friday when the Cubs travel to Target Field to face the Twins. The Cubs are 0-3 in Interleague play after being swept by the White Sox.

Saturday: RHP Jeff Samardzija (5-3, 3.13) vs. LHP Scott Diamond (4-1, 1.86)
