6/9 Extra bases
* Alfonso Soriano is the 86th player in Major League history to reach 350 career homers. He’s one of nine active Major Leaguers with at least 350 homers and 400 doubles, joining Jim Thome, Alex Rodriguez, Chipper Jones, Todd Helton, Carlos Lee, David Ortiz, Lance Berkman and Albert Pujols.
Soriano has 11 homers in his last 23 games, starting May 15, and has more in that stretch than any other player in the Majors. Jose Bautista, Robinson Cano and Dayan Viciedo are the closest with eight each since that date.
* Unfortunately, Soriano’s homers haven’t helped the Cubs as they’ve lost 19 of their last 23 games since May 15, and 11 of those losses have been by one run.
* The Cubs now are 0-4 in Interleague play this year, and looking for their first win in the state of Minnesota since July 15, 2000. It’ll be tough as they face lefties Saturday and Sunday, and are 2-12 this year vs. left-handed starters.
