6/11 Dempster earns NL honors

Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster and Diamondbacks left fielder Jason Kubel were named co-winners of the National League Player of the Week. Dempster was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and nine strikeouts over 15 innings in two starts. This is the second career weekly award for the 35-year-old after winning for the period ending July 8, 2001, as a member of the Marlins. Other noteworthy performances from last week included Alfonso Soriano, who hit .357, with four homers, nine RBIs and scored seven runs.
