6/14 Minor League report

Blake Lalli hit a game-tying homer in the fifth but it wasn’t enough as Omaha beat Iowa, 5-2, on Wednesday. Rodrigo Lopez took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits over six innings. Geovany Soto was 1-for-2, catching five innings in his third rehab appearance.

Dae-Eun Rhee gave up three runs on eight hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 6-3 win over Birmingham. Jim Adduci hit his fifth home run and Justin Bour had two hits, including a double. Frank Batista notched his ninth save, throwing two innings.

Daytona’s game against Brevard County was suspended after the third inning, and was to be resumed Thursday as part of a doubleheader.

Jose Rosario gave up one run on three hits over 6 1/3 innings in Peoria’s 7-1 win over Beloit. Javier Baez and Dustin Geiger each had two hits, and each homered for the Chiefs. Baez, the Cubs’ No. 1 Draft pick one year ago, was batting .315.

Carrie, what’s the organization’s take on Vitters to date? It seems that his AAA numbers are “decent” and he is getting the hang of things down there and he IS a third baseman and the Cubs needed a third baseman yet Vitters does not get the call for what amounts to be a plain and simple cup of coffee in the majors. Like Cardenas, Lalli and now Valbeuna received among other minor leaguers that have gotten a taste of the bigs. Just wondering….how bad is Vitters that he can’t even get a temporary call up to keep a spot warm? Hill did it at catcher and he WAS TERRIBLE.
