7/18 Minor League report
Chris Volstad gave up six earned runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in Iowa’s 7-2 loss to New Orleans on Tuesday night. Josh Vitters did extend his hitting streak to a season-high 16 games, going 2-for-4. He’s hitting .345 in July. Alfredo Amezaga and Brett Jackson each had multiple hit games.
Nicholas Struck gave up five earned runs on seven hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 9-2 loss to Jackson. Logan Watkins had two hits, including a triple.
Matt Loosen gave up one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings, striking out six, in Daytona’s 6-1 win over Charlotte. Loosen is 8-3 with a 2.79 ERA, and is holding hitters to a .181 average. Matt Szczur had three hits and two RBIs, and Roni Torreyes had two hits and a stolen base.
Peoria opens a six-game road trip Wednesday against Western Michigan. Jose Rosario was scheduled to start.
James Pugliese threw five shutout innings, giving up one run and striking out five, in Boise’s 5-0 win over Yakima. Trey Martin was 3-for-3, including his third home run, and stole a base. Martin was named Northwest League Player of the Week for July 9-15, batting .545 in that stretch with two home runs and seven RBIs.
Daniel Vogelbach hit his seventh home run in Mesa’s 6-5 win over the Mariners. Vogelbach is batting .360, and he drove in three runs. Shawon Dunston, David Bote and Carlos Penalver each had two hits.

One would have to wonder if Vitters’ recent success can be described as “getting the hang of things”…..?????
I sure hope so… a 3B hitting 275 right now with an 800 OPS would be amazing
