at least if Sveum is platooning LaHair he is fairly doing the same with DeJesus an even more underperforming outfilelder than LaHair. Next season there HAS to be a completley new outfiled….don’t you think? Three guys that would need NO platooning, just an occassional day off for rest. How refreshing would THAT be???

hey don’t knock platooning . I agree we need a new outfield but platooning can work really well, and has. If you can manage to pick up two guys with power that can put up like .450/.200 and .200/.450 against R/L respectively why not? especially if they’re undervalued and you can get them for cheap. Also, if Vitters stays with the Cubs I kind of like this infield for next year.

I don’t see any platooning going on in the infield, all we have to do is plug in a RUN PRODUCING third baseman, I hope it can be Vitters. I thought we were talking about the outfield. I don’t think any World Series team gets there with a REGULARLY platooned outfield postion let alone two. It can happen but not likely. You can have platooning Jesse as the biggest thing platooning does is announce to the world that the team does NOT have a bonafide every day player because if the two players platooning were so damn good they BOTH would be every day starters in different positions. So I’ll knock platooning, especially the type the Cubs are doing out of desperation.

we are talkin outfield. I was just commenting that if we get to bring up Vitters that I wouldn’t mind not touching the rest of the infield, they’re a solid group of prospects that seem to work well together. I don’t know of any teams utilizing it right now and I’ve never heard of a pair of platoons, that seems like too much, but to be honest I don’t follow up too much on other teams. I was just saying that taken advantage of properly (not the way Cubs are doing it), platooning can work well for a team, especially next year with the 26 man rosters
