7/30 Iowa Cubs moves

The Cubs have signed outfielder Jeff Frazier to a Minor League contract, and assigned him to Triple-A Iowa. Also, infielder Blake DeWitt and pitcher Rafael Dolis were placed on Iowa’s disabled list. DeWitt has a lower back strain and Dolis has a sore left knee. Both were sent to the Cubs complex in Mesa, Ariz., to rehab.

Frazer, 29, began the season with Reynosa in the Mexican League and hit .273 with three homers and 14 RBIs in 34 games.  He also played in 23 games with Triple-A Toledo from May 3-June 16 this year and hit .190 with a homer and five RBIs before he was released.  It was his third stint with the Tigers’ organization.  The Tigers drafted Frazier in the third round of the 2004 Draft out of Rutgers University, and he was rated the Tigers‘ seventh-best prospect in 2005. Frazier made his Major League debut with the Tigers in 2010 and was 5-for-23 (.217) in nine games.  Last year, Frazier played at Triple-A Syracuse in the Nationals organization and batted .226 with 10 homers and 46 RBIs in 118 games.  Frazier hails from Toms River, NJ and was part of the city’s Little League World Series team in 1995.  His younger brother, Todd, plays for the Reds.

I have a sense now that Theo & Jed will not be able to trade anyone off this team…..rumor going around now is Dempster might go to Atlanta, but Braves are offering a lesser known minor league player now.

Not that big of a deal anymore anyway. We don’t have as much valuable and in demand players as one would think. Dempster had a rare season and other teams know his TRUE value (good…NOT “MUST HAVE”), Garza can wind up staying with us for a few years and that’s not a bad thing….Baker??? Marmol??? Soto???…Please! Johnson (aside from Dempster) may be the only TRULY valuable player that can actually help a team during a play off run. Hoystein no doubt did not go into this season COUNTING on getting value in return for the players he was left with by Hendry so this is not a serious blow to his plan. I believe he knew he was pretty much left with a bad hand and the Dempster “non-trade” is only a bump in the road, not devasting. If Dempster had a typical Dempster season Hoystein would be in the same boat anyway.

heard a “rumor” that the FO is working on a BIG 3 or 4 team trade…. doubt it gets done just heard that it would be a complicated trade to get done… no teams were named BUT I would guess Dbacks and Rangers could be involved
