7/30 Barney wins Heart & Hustle award

Cubs second baseman Darwin Barney was named winner of the Heart and Hustle Award, which honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit, and tradition of the game. It’s presented by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association. Former Cubs pitcher Milt Pappas made the presentation on Monday at Wrigley Field.

One player from each Major League team is chosen by the MLBPAA committee, and fans, all alumni and active players will vote to select the final winner. Previous overall winners are Craig Biggio (2006, 2007), Grady Sizemore (2008), Albert Pujols (2009), Roy Halladay (2010), and Torii Hunter (2011). The final winner will be announced Nov. 13.

Congratulations Darwin. You truly deserve the award. I hope you win the overall. You’re my favorite player. I love you. You make me happy. So many people doubted my faith in you, but I knew I made the right choice, and by now, so do they.
Your Best Fan

Omg im his biggest fan too!!! Dont you just LOVE him!? I know What you mean by everyone doubting you, Because they did that to me too…guess he proved them all wrong!!! :)

Darwin is absolutely the best. I haven’t really had a favorite player since Ernie Banks (yeah, I’m that old), because nobody else had that type of team spirit or great attitude, but Darwin does. Everyone told me he was going to be a nobody bench warmer at best, but they’ve had to take it all back. He’s going to be great.

My last favorite was Sammy Sosa, i was about 5!!! But I know how it feels, they told me too…that we were gonna trade him, or he was going to be on the bench all the time…Yes I know…but we know he’s better! ;)

I think everyone knows by now that Darwin is good. Last year, the Cubs had to get t-shirts made to sell, because everyone was complaining that there weren’t any. And look at the crowd reaction when he got beaned last night. And one more thing… HE’S SO CUTE!!! My family likes to tease me about that, since he’s the same age as my daughter, but even we old ladies can appreciate a good-looking guy, especially when he’s as nice as Darwin is.

Omg Yes he is! But not only is he good looking, but he has a great record. And he has also been better then Fontinot! Man Barney is just doing great! :)

Yeah, I just love him. He’s in contention for a pretty big award this year. As an old-timer, I believe in the jinx, so I can’t say what it is, but I sure hope he gets it. I just haven’t run across a player like him since I was a kid. And he certainly IS better than Fontenot!

Yes, Yes I agree with you 100%! :)

Congratulations Mr. Purple Dinosaur. You’ve got a glove and a bible with your name on it. Keep dominating that infield.
