8/2 Minor League report
Greg Rohan had three hits, including two home runs, in his first game for Triple-A Iowa, but it wasn’t enough as they lost, 11-6, to Colorado Springs on Wednesday. Ty’Relle Harris gave up four earned runs on nine hits over four innings and took the loss. Josh Vitters also homered, and was batting .296 overall. Brett Jackson was a home run shy of the cycle, going 3-for-5.
Tennessee defeated Pensacola, 4-2, in the completion of Tuesday’s suspended game. Nate Samson hit his second home run. In the second game, Justin Bour hit a walkoff home run in a 1-0 victory. Dallas Beeler gave up one hit over five scoreless innings.
Lendy Castillo gave up one unearned run on three hits over four innings in Daytona’s 2-1 win over Ft. Myers. Castillo, the Cubs’ Rule 5 Draft pick, is rehabbing from a groin injury.
Dustin Geiger tied a franchise record with eight RBIs in Peoria’s 11-10 win over Quad Cities. Geiger had three hits, including two home runs, and a double. It was his second two-homer game of the season. Javier Baez had two hits and sored two runs. Austin Reed picked up his first save.
Stephen Bruno and Xavier Batista bothhomered in Boise’s 14-10 win over Spokane. Boise pitcher Ian Dickson was named Northwest League Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 and striking out eight while giving up four hits over 11 scoreless innings.
Albert Almora had three hits and Jorge Soler had two in Mesa’s 4-0 win over the Indians in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Mesa scored four runs in the sixth to post a 7-2 win. Trevor Gretzky reached base three times and drove in a run.
