8/4 Cubs lineup
Jeff Baker is starting in right field and Joe Mather in center for the Cubs against Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw on Saturday night. Here’s the lineup:

why mamma why? and who? Jackson and Vitters? There’s just no reason. Vitters might get a september call up, but I would be really surprised if Jackson doesn’t make it till the opening day roster
I’m with Mamma, bring them up now. The sooner we find out if they can handle the bigs the better the team can be assembled over the winter. The current options for all outfield positions and third base are SO ABYSMAL right now it would take some pressure off the call ups because they really wouldn’t have to beat anybody out to claim a spot. It would be more like a two month audition for next seaon. Service time be damned, bring them up like Mamma says. No true lead off hitter, no true clean up hitter, no true third baseman. What do the Cubs have to lose? Rushing Vitters and Jackson? Service time? Big deal. These guys may not be in Hoystein’s plans anyway unless they surprise Hoystein by playing well IN THE MAJOR LEAGUE. Give Jackson (yes, and all his strikeouts, been there, done that, heard it already a billion times) a shot at lead-off and WORK with him on cutting down the strikeouts and give Vitters a shot at 3B and let him work on his defense…all in 2012 so they will be that much better to claim a spot in 2013. OR NOT, but at least Hoystein (we) will know and we wouldn’t have to be subjected to Baker, Mather, the KOYIE HILL-LIKE hitting Valbuena (what a joke at 3B as far as power and run production) and even the floundering LaHair.
Iowa is done for the year, bring them up and let’s see what they can do. These last couple of months we could be watching next years team(part of it) play now. Top five pick next year. Load this team up with young talent and watch this team grow together. It will be 2014 before they make some noise.
O.K. let us be patient with Vitters and Jackson starting today. As Joey said–nothing to lose and better idea of future for our team.
