8/17 Minor League report
Shawon Dunston Jr. went 3-for-4, including a two-run home run in the third, in Mesa’s 9-1 win Thursday night over the Reds. Dunston also hit a RBI single in the fourth.
Dustin Geiger and Timothy Saunders each had two hits to help Peoria out-hit Burlington, 7-3, but the Chiefs went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight in a 4-0 loss.
Javier Baez was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, hitting his first home run for Daytona in a 7-6 loss to Lakeland. Baez also hit a double. Robert Whitenack started, and gave up one run on four hits and three walks over four innings. Lakeland won on a walk off two-run single by James Robbins.
Justin Bour hit a three-run home run to power Tennessee to a 4-3 win over Birmingham. Bour was batting .297. Tony Zych picked up the win in relief of Eric Jokisch, and Frank Batista picked up his 22nd save, walking one and striking out one in 1 2/3 innings.
Alfredo Amezaga was 4-for-5 and Tony Campana, Blake Lalli, Diory Hernandez and Matt Tolbert each had two hits in Iowa’s 7-6 loss to Tucson. The Iowa Cubs out-hit Tucson, 14-11 in the loss. Seth McClung started, and gave up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks over 3 1/3 innings.
