8/21 Roenicke on Sveum

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke was asked to grade his former hitting coach Dale Sveum on how he’s fared in his first year as Cubs manager:

“That’s too hard of a question, because of the turnaround and them trying to rebuild,” Roenicke said. “Sometimes it’s tough, and sometimes it’s really fun. I think there’s nothing better than getting a bunch of young guys that have talent, and seeing how far you can improve what they do. For a coach, that’s about as fun as it gets, when you do it with guys who are hungry, they listen to you. It can be really fun.

“We really haven’t talked that way, but I know him as a hitting coach, when he got somebody he could change and see the improvement, that’s when you saw him really fired up about that guy,” Roenicke said. “That’s why we coach.”
