9/3 Cubs lineup & more
Brett Jackson and David DeJesus will celebrate Labor Day holiday with a day off as the Cubs open a four-game series Monday against the Nationals, who have the best record in MLB. Here’s Monday’s lineup:
* With Sunday’s loss, the Cubs are ensured a third-consecutive season with a record below .500. They have now posted three-straight below .500 seasons for the first time since 1990-92.
* After outfielder Dave Sappelt made his Cubs debut on Sunday, the team has utilized 49 different players, two shy of the single-season club record of 51 set in 2000. Right-hander Miguel Socolovich will increase the total to 50 when he makes his first relief outing. He also would be the 18th different rookie used this year, their most since 18 played in 2010. The club record is 20 in 1902. Of the 17 rookies used so far, nine have been pitchers, and two have made starts, lefthanders Brooks Raley and Chris Rusin. Rusin will make his second start Tuesday.
