9/7 Extra bases
* The Cubs play their next 16 games and 19 of their final 25 games against NL Central teams.
* Darwin Barney has played in an NL single-season record 122-straight games without an error at second base, surpassing David Eckstein’s mark of 113-consecutive games set with the Padres in 2010. Barney is one game shy of equaling Ryne Sandberg’s overall NL record 123-game errorless streak, allowing for multiple seasons, that ran from June 21, 1989-May 17, 1990. Placido Polanco holds the Major League record single-season errorless streak for a second baseman of 141 games, set in 2007 with the Tigers.
* Starlin Castro is two hits shy of 500 career Major League hits at the age of 22. Only 27 players in Major League history have reached their 500th career hit before turning 23, with the only active player being the Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez.
* The Cubs have lost 20 of their last 23 games on the road since the All-Star Break, including 16 of their last 17 road games since the start of August.
