10/4 Cubs promote Rehman
The Cubs promoted Shiraz Rehman to assistant general manager, reporting to general manager Jed Hoyer, on Thursday. The team now will have two assistant GMs in Rehman and Randy Bush, who will continue to serve in the role he has held since December 2006. Rehman, 34, joined the Cubs in November as assistant to the general manager after six seasons with the Diamondbacks, where he was director of player personnel. He also held the titles of director of baseball operations (2009-10) and manager of baseball operations (2007-08) after joining the D-backs as a baseball operations assistant in December 2005.

Arizona Diamondbacks have terminated announcers Mark Grace and his partner Sutton . Today they came out and announced they are contacting Bob Brenly and Steve Stone. Both have homes in Phoenix.
They would make a good team. Makes sense. For some reason I would think Stony wouldn’t mind a change of scenery away from the brutally juvenile Hawk….He gone!?!?!???
How well liked announcers Mark Grace and Daron Sutton careers imploded recently is sad. Sutton is still being paid from a four year contract but may reach a payoff agreement so he can seek another job. Grace though in rehab will probably get some jailtime and has lost two good jobs. Mark will probably never see the big money jobs again. Brenly lives in Phoenix area as does his son Michael and Stone is here a lot. The guys who had replaced Grace and Sutton were brutal recently so D-backs are ready for a quick move. Brenly is extremely popular due to that great World Series year and D-back organization is very stable with quality people everywhere. King Theo is running a C.I.A. operation and dare to cross him in any Cub position and you will join the un-employment line on Waveland. Transparency is only the cataract view of the King and his court. Brenly and Len are survivalists but at what cost.
A little harsh on Theo Mamma, after all he’s only been on the job a year and had a considerable lack of talent from the last GM. He did fire Hendry’s guy Quade who was unbearable.
Joey–trust me-paranoia is rampant throughout the organization and he has actually set an arrogant tone that is un-precedented. The Ricketts family are really really good people but they will sooner than later have to let Mr. Arrogant know that he is just another employee floating through Rickettsville. There has to be some balance and not just a free ride-salary for several years. Chicago media is soft with little debate on some really horrible trades and acquisitions this season. After all what executive has been with two big budget ball teams in the last 10 months and they have lost 101 and 90 plus games in that time period. Boston and Chicago totally screwed up. That fact is record setting and gosh knows we have witnessed enough records this year. Dale will find out in time that he may have sold his soul to the devil. My little conservative comments are bland compared to some Boston Blog sites and even the MLB blogs on this site.
I have no reason not to trust you Mamma however I still believe that THIS organization (not boston) is soooooo deep in a sad roster set in place by the previous, overmatched GM that Theo (even if as arrogant as you claim) should be given some space and time to put in motion what he claims he can do. Besides, maybe a smartGM that is ARROGANT is better than an inept GM that is CUDDLY. I for one am going to kick back and enjoy Theo’s “first” offseason. I don’t count last winter as it wasn’t his own team yet….NOW, it will get that much more interesting. It sounds like you have some inside dope? I believe you, just holding on to the benefit of the doubt for at least another couple of years.
Joey: Today with the playoffs it is hurtful to not have a team to root for–even the Sox fell short and by the way-Kenny Williams is the real deal as is Don Cooper and Robin sure dodged that rookie mgr. tag, never having been a coach or mgr. at ANY level. Theo and Jed are not rookies and yet what nucleus they inherited is really gone with little in return. It is like my mother holding her annual garage sale and bragging about making three hundred dollars–my father said sure but you gave away three thousand dollars of my items. The Chicago media have really rolled over and the Ricketts had better check with their accountants on the TRUE costs of this season. Literally dozens of players were flown in and given major league pay of several hundred thousand dollars and more than several were given several million dollar contracts that did not pan out. Very expensive way to see if jello will stick on a wall. 101 losses and spring training could be a nightmare. But we do have a lot of money to spend–just wish Kenny Williams or Billy Beane was here to make the decision.
Sorry Mamma, not buying the comparison to the WhiteSox, there are far ahead of the Cubs as far as the ML roster. But I do agree about Williams and Cooper they certainly remain competitve year after year and are considered legit playoff contenders. I think Ryno might have performed as admirably as Ventura…but…oops!
Also, why not pull for the Braves…and Reed Johnson????
