11/6 Cubs search for color man

According to Comcast SportsNet Chicago, the Cubs will begin interviews this week with five contenders for the TV analyst job as they search for a replacement for Bob Brenly. The list includes Dan Plesac, Rick Sutcliffe, Eric Karros, Todd Hollandsworth and Gary Matthews. Plesac was a pre and post-game analyst for Comcast SportsNet before joining MLB Network. He also played for the Cubs in 1993 and ’94. Sutcliffe, another former Cubs pitcher, is under contract for one more year with ESPN.

Karros, played for the Cubs in 2003, was approached for the WGN Radio color job after Ron Santo died in December 2010. Hollandsworth is the current pre and post-game analyst on Comcast SportsNet Chicago. He has filled in for Brenly before. Matthews is currently a color commentator for the Phillies broadcasts. “Sarge” played for the Cubs from 1984-87 and was a member of Dusty Baker’s coaching staff from 2003-06. Brenly left to join the Diamondbacks TV broadcast team.

i think Eric Karros would be a great color man

except his stupid lisp

He also needs to deal with his aging and realize his hair needs to be cut.

Pleasac, hell no.
Sutcliff, intriguing.
Karros, eh.
Hollandsworth, please Lord NO.
Mathews, Hmmmmm…..could be the guy!

Why no love for Plesac? I see him regularly on the MLB Network and am impressed. Is an excellent analyst. Is intelligent and articulate. My second choice is Sarge, as I live in Pa. and have often seen him on the Phillies` broadcasts.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have always thought Pleasac was a boring personality. He may very well be intelligent and articulate but to have such exposure as the job calls for I think Pleasac would be a weak choice. But I suppose jhosk your no. 2 guy and my no. 1 guy (from these limited choices…) being one and the same is close enough! :)

too bad Steve Stone had a falling out with the Cubs organization. he is very knowledgeable and put Harry Carey in his place at times. Steve could call a great game, but unfortunately his alliange belongs to the cross town White Sox :(

I wish Steve Stone would come back, but my second choice would be Dave Otto

totally agree

Why isn’t Marlon Byrd on this list?
