12/10 Winter ball update

Luis Valbuena went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, hitting his fifth home run and a double for Cardenales de Lara in Venezuelan winter league. Valbuena was batting .312 in 40 games. Meanwhile, Dave Sappelt has five straight multi-hit games, and was batting .324 in 18 games total for Bravos de Margarita in Venezuela.

Sappelt may be our younger Reed Johnson–some baseball insiders are very optomistic about his future.

I think you are correct Mamma Mia. Its very possible he becomes a regular this season. Also I wonder why on these Winter updates, why Campana’s average is not updated?
Carrie gives Sappelts, Valbuenas anf Jr Lakes often. I have noticed Campana’s has not been listed the last few updates.

I also think Sappelt is in the Cub’s future. He seems to be doing very well in Venezuela and Valbueno is doing well, too. I am still hoping Campana will be back in 2013. He is great fun to watch. Looks like Ian Stewart may have alot of competition at 3rd. Maybe DeJesus will move to CF and Sappelt will go to RF. How will this all play out? Can’t wait for the games to begin.

Valbueno did play a good third base and had a lot of clutch hits. Batting average was so poor though.

Campana only makes it if he becomes the best bunter in baseball.

It is absoulutely imperative that Tony finally learns the nuances of deadening the ball down either line. When he does get on base he is a game changer. He does practice as I have been able to watch him in Mesa for many years–bunting practice is usually off a 50 mph batting practice pitch–different scenario against 90mph fastballs or breaking pitches. Some practice habits are mystifying. Hope you read this Dale.

Agreed. Tony needs to win the bunting competition this year! Has Sappelt ever played at 3rd base? Just wondering.

well a quick 15 second google search showed the results…. NO! Its called google… use it
