12/28 Winter League playoffs

Cubs prospect Junior Lake went 2-for-4 with a stolen base for Estrellas de Oriente, which lost, 3-1, on Thursday to Toros del Este in the first game in round robin playoffs in the Dominican Winter League. Lake, who batted .312 in 44 games during the season, started in left field in the playoff game. The Cubs are looking for bench players, and Lake’s versatility is a plus.

More bench players? They should be looking for championship caliber everyday players. Junior would look good in any outfield positon in 2013…compared to who is already out there.

Last year I hung my hat on the all-star Bryan LaHair–mistake. Now this year I am appealing to Junior Lake to grab a position and be rookie of the year. The time has come and it is his for the asking. He played two fall seasons of Arizona Fall League and the majority of those guys are in the bigs. Fans will love the abilities of this guy if he can handle the pressure.

I hope you are right Mamma Mia. Last year we had such high hopes for Vitters and Jackson – that sure didn’t work out so well. Now is looks like they are planning on Ian Stewart at 3rd. Sure hope he can come back healthy and strong. I liked Sappelt. Is he anywhere in the plans?

Busy with tvg and horse betting today but here goes. A scout friend has expressed to me that Sappelt is the real deal and he has always liked him throughout his career. Too many hitting coaches stirring the pot with Vitters and Jackson. Jackson has always taken a lot of pitches and this strong kid is always looking for the perfect pitch. Let him swing. When we let Vitters swing away in the minors he has had success–turning him into a patient hitter has been detrimental. If we trade him away to a singular hitting coach he may do well.
