1/18 Stewart feels 100 percent

Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart said his left wrist is 100 percent healthy after surgery last July, and he’s been hitting this offseason with Hall of Famer Rod Carew in California. Stewart spends two weeks at a time in California with Carew, then goes home for two weeks to be with his family. He’ll make his third trip to California on Monday.

Stewart had a bone removed from his wrist and admitted it took a few sessions before he could turn it loose.

“The last time I was truly healthy was 2010, and even then I missed the last month with an oblique injury,” he said. “I did well that year, and the last few years has been a lingering wrist issue and I really believe I got it taken care of.”

Ian Stewart could very well be a tremendously improved 3rd baseman this year. With his wrist injury being treated he should be good to go. I like his confident attitude and look forward to cheering him on.

Little Stewie has presented a confident attitude and taken the good checks for several years now while his team suffered . Wrist injuries and surgery is difficult to overcome–tendons and structure of wrist is like trying to sew a wet noodle and not get it too tight or loose. I detailed my own traumatic wrist injury here. Anyhow we all wish for complete success and turnaround for Ian as we need power from the third base slot. But we can not start the season and waste games like last year with false hopes. We can not have everybody in that dugout asleep at the wheel again.
