1/28 Vogelbach 8th among 1B prospects

MLB.com released it’s top 10 first base prospects, and the Cubs’ Dan Vogelbach was listed at No. 8. Here’s MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo on the infielder:

“When Vogelbach was an amateur, he created a good amount of buzz with his left-handed power bat. Vogelbach has not disappointed as a pro after the Cubs took him in the second round in 2011. He has as much raw pop as anyone in the Minors at this position and can hit the ball out to all fields. Vogelbach has an advanced approach that has allowed him to get on base and hit for average. He was very out of shape in high school but has worked hard to slim down since signing, something he will have to continue to do as his bat propels him up the organization ladder.”

MLB.com will release top outfielders on Monday. Check Cubs.com for that story later in the day.

i absolutely think this kid is going to be a stud…….

150 to 200 games huh? lol he has only played 67 games in the minors… quit blowing smoke man…. does Vogelbach have gold glove defense? NO! But the kid is a lot better than people originally thought. He could easily be an average fielding 1B in the MLB.

Welcome back Belgian Cubbie. Glad you are all set for the 2013 season! Looks like we are all going to have a “vigorous” year debating the Cub’s ups and downs. I too am grateful for Mamma Mia’s presence on this blog as well as Joey and Isabel and many others who contribute their insights, ideas, thoughts, etc. Let the fun begin. Oh, I think it already has!!! Let’s all “go nuts” !

Thanks White.
About your little competition with Isabel, wouldn’t it be nice if Carrie could hint Barney about this during ST? And maybe let him decide the “winner” at the end of the season?

Wonderful idea Belgian Cubbie – I know he would pick me!!!!!! LOL

btw, anyone (white, isabel, mamma mia, joey) on twitter?

Where is the poser Mamma Mia???!?! I got a link I want you to look at…. http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2013/2/9/3968330/dan-vogelbach-video-cubs-fantasy-camp-report ….. how could you have missed this being you see and talk to the guys EVERY DAY…….. HAAHA YOU ARE A POSER!!!!!!! Vogelbach looks to be in the 230-240 range in this video and it was taken… wait for it… wait for it…. FEB 9th!!!!!! HMMMMMMMMMMM WEIRD!!!!!!!!

Mamma, as long as the KID can hit he will have value even if it is as a trade chip to get a another player, possibly a GENUINE leftFIELDER that can actually help us get to the playoffs and maybe even PRODUCE in the playoffs. It’s good to have kids like this in the system and their youth makes them very attractive to other teams as well. But certainly we don’t need any more average fielders out there as we all know above average is what it will take to get to the promised land. DH’s belong in the AL, and maybe both Soriano (fingers crossed!) and Vogelbach will be traded to AL teams. At least Vogelbach has youth on his side and may learn how to become an above average fielder…. By the way, when you mentioned 150-200 games, you probably meant ANY games?? and not JUST minor league games?? You have the benefit of the doubt Mamma…Hang in there!

Is there anyway to vote to this reply as “reply-of-the-year”
Great job Mamma Mia, but watch out….he might come back with some stats from Fangraph (as this site favors his favorite players and rates the ones he doesn’t like lower).
Btw, any other kids over there that could surprise us (and most scouts) this spring?

5’8 the kids 6′……. why do i think he can be an average fielder? O because the scouts… who know more than yourself and myself say he is a better fielder than anticipated…. i still doubt very highly you have seen Vogelbach play in 150-200 games…. i don’t care if you have been there everytime the kid has taken a dump…… one not many people have that much time…. two he wouldn’t play every game … three 200 games for a kid just getting drafted so recently is pretty high no matter if they are intersquad (which shouldn’t count) or rookie ball(which he has played in about 30 games in rookie ball)…… me dumbass? you poser!!

BelgianCubbie!! Good to see you’re still around…and I AGREE!!! Mamma replied the hell outta that one!! Good job Mamma!

Yeah, I’m still around… reading the comments here everyday, but didn’t feel like replying… to much going on here the last few months…. carreer-switch, studying, family… now I got a few months to concentrate on the Cubs again… and annoy the heck out of everybody who posts stupid, ignorant and insane comments… oh wait, that’s just 1 person….

and what about 3B? any prospects in the lower leagues? or would you think Beaz, Lake or Castro could make the switch?

Mamma, I for one am so grateful for your presence on this blog, thanks for your insight and mature comments, “scouting” reports :) and of course your sharp wit! (I can attest, you need it when verbally abused time and time again…but I digress…) Have fun out in the desert!!

well dumbass you better look again because fangraphs, baseball reference and his MiLB.com profile all say 6′ 250….keep making shit up… its entertaining seeing you talk around stuff and try to throw the smoke screen up…. ur good at it… his fielding stats also show he can be an average defender… weird how the scouts and his stats say he can but someone you SAYS they have watched him every single game he has ever played thinks he is 5’8 and 280… o wait you back tracked and now say he’s 5’11…. hmmmmmm weird
