1/31 Lawyer: Marmol innocent

A lawyer for Carlos Marmol told the Chicago Tribune on Thursday that Cubs pitcher is innocent of accuations made by a 24-year-old woman in the Dominican Republic. According to ListinDiario.com, a woman filed a criminal complaint against Marmol. No police charges have been filed. Marmol’s attorney, Nelson Pimentel, told the Tribune he has filed a counter complaint, accusing the woman of trying to extort and blackmail the pitcher.

“Carlos Marmol is totally innocent of the things he is accused of,” Pimentel told the Tribune. “They never occurred. She is only trying to get money out of Carlos Marmol. It is very important for us to say the legal case against him is not true.”

Poor Marmol

I say “the poor Cubs fans” if he’s our closer for another season.

Such corruption in the Dominican–extortion etc. Opps, I meant Cook County

First Castro and now Marmol. I hope Marmol is innocent and not charged. Our guys need to be really careful when it comes to greedy women preying on rich players. I hope Marmol will be able to leave the D.R. in time for Spring training. He is our closer, some like it some don’t, and he did do pretty well last season after his first flubs. He does give us alot of “nerve wracking” moments though. Anyway, good luck Marmol. See you soon in Mesa.

Most hitters do not like to face Marmol with that wicked slider. Of course he drives us crazy by walking the bases loaded so often. Look for Caridiad to push him for closer outings.

Has anyone heard what is happening with Marmol in the D.R.? I hope he is able to get to Spring training soon and hopefully put these charges behind him.

Hi White–from what I understand the original complaint dates back to Oct. and has never been acted on by anyone. Now just days before he is to leave the area the lady and lawyer are kicking up dust. Millionaires are so susceptible to extortion and shake downs in D.R. I know that the Cubs wish guys would re-locate here unless they are at the Dominican Academy where there is club supervision. Venzuela is even worse with kidnapping of family members of players for money. Probably a few bucks passing through several hands will solve this. But if Marmol is guilty then let justice be served. I think the fans criticism of him has taken a toll as he seems to be wired pretty tight these days. Being around him as a rookie he was pretty laid back but he was poor and did not have 20 million dollars. Started here at Mesa as a catcher–could not hit so our rookie league pitching coach took him to a bullpen mound and the rest is history.

Thank you very much Mamma Mia for your response. I truly hope Marmol is innocent of any charges. If this so-called event dates back to Oct. I would imagine it would have been acted upon sooner if it were true. Sounds like Marmol is being targeted unfairly and they are now hoping for something BEFORE he leaves the country for Spring training. Certainly bad timing for his mental state. I guess we fans have been pretty hard on him – he does give us cardiac arrest on many occasions (LOL) but he does get the job done pretty darn well! I am truly amazed that so many of our D.R., Venezuela, Japanese players are able to come to the U.S., adapt to our ways, learn the language the best they can, and play with determination and excellence. I will continue to keep my cardiac arrest meds at hand when Marmol pitches and I do wish him the best 2013 season ever!

Could be a blessing in disguise for Carlos to be detained in D.R, indefinitely. Would force the Cubs brass and field manager to find a closer who is actually efficient and effective.

Marmol had some rough spots last season BUT he did get the job done quite well when he found his groove. I hope he has a good 2013 and can put these latest troubles behind him.

White–I am being extorted myself this week. I let a pan of green beans burn up and wisely put the pan in the garage and aired out the house. Now my daughter is shaking me down for a new set of pots and pans as this may have occurred before. She was not here when incident was occurring but insists it wqs me. Also has relegated me to the microwave only–a microwave burger looks terrible. Where is the justice?

Oh my gosh! There is NO JUSTICE Mamma Mia. Invite your daughter to lunch immediately and serve her your microwaved burger along with some limp microwaved fries. Up here in Oregon I myself am constantly being curtailed! With my MS the family tells me to stay away from all kitchen knives (I ignore them) as I send anything I am cutting halfway across the room in my efforts. I am also denied access to ladders (I ignore them) as I have been known to fall off more often than not. How else am I to clean off the top of the frig if I can’t find a ladder? So far I have agreed to stay off the roof to clean the gutters (can barely walk to the mailbox as it is) and I don’t climb up on chairs as my son has told my husband to remove all chairs from the house if I refuse to obey. You gotta love em!

I thought this was a baseball site.

me too jhosk… its not its a social circle jerk between an old lady, a fish, the 9th wonder of the world, and a kid from the short bus………. hahaha

And a grouch!

Jhosk–back to baseball. Spoke to a coach yesterday about cubs running bases. He said new emphasis this spring. He said Starlin Castro fast but tends to run with his head up to first and on doubles or triples tilts his whole body backward which slows him down. He also said that Darwin Barney is very quick to first and has the best running mechanics of any cub. There are so many new players here that free roster list they give out here is in-dispensable.

i bet the guys just consider you one of the team by now… i mean you are with them everyday…….NOT

Are you just being jealous Petrey? I think Mamma Mia probably sees and chats with many of the players and/or coaches everyday. What a great place to be for Spring training! I love hearing Mamma Mia’s news on what is happening down there. It sounds like this will be a very interesting Spring training with so many new players, etc. I am wondering if Marmol will be able to get up to Mesa soon. Hope so. Jhosk – yes this is a baseball site but it is also a place where we Cub’s fans can get to know each other AND each other’s opinions, ideas, hopes, etc. We are a “family of fans”. I, for one, care very much about the others who are blogging on this site and am glad to hear any related news from them. LOL

Bob Beck not here for first spring in all those years. He liked to hand out the roster cards and meet fans. We will never forget him.

Am not familiar with Bob Beck. Please enlighten me and perhaps others who are in the dark regarding that reference.

jhosk==go to Bob Beck Cubs and you can read about this great fan and he was also in a cubs documentary on hbo. 80 yrs of attending Wrigley games and spending every spring training here–a delight to spend time with and a great family to survive him.

Thanks for the suggestions, Mamma.

Nicely done jhosk. Yet another example of politeness, respect and sincere consideration for other commentors such as Mamma who has time and time again made a case for himself with such insightful comments. What’s there to argue about when it comes to Mamma?? Nothing really. So much we can learn from Mamma and the experience of witnessing spring training for so many years.

White–write as you want–just look at other cub sites such as bleacher nation and they comment about a lot of things besides baseball and insult each other and make personal comments about their jobs and families etc. Petrey is a daily burden but Joey can handle him–

White’s reply was so appropriate Mamma, I echo her thoughts regarding hearing your first hand reports from the desert and will always choose to err on the side of optimism thusly BELIEVING you ARE there, ARE a big Cub fan, ARE a courteous and thoughful commentor to this blog…why would anybody choose to rain on your parade? Same for White and others that write without any foul language, snide remarks, name calling etc. In other words, live and let live and allow people their opinions regardless if they are akin to one’s own. I have indeed handled the petreydish of all that is vile, base, nasty and mean…by letting it grow inside whatever ill-will and evilness it can…then walk away with a little chuckle and a prayer of thanks that I (we) are not such a life form.
Aside from this little episode of recogintion of it’s existence the petreydish has been cast from my existence and thusly “handled” and I am better for it. It is only your mentioning my name and mutual respect that I even replied. I know, I know…I’m going on and on about something NOT at all about baseball….AINT IT GREAT!! HA! AIN’T IT AMERICA! GOD BLESS AMERICA AND THE CUBS!!!

Even though other sites are more vulgar and rougher than ours–nobody attacks women and young girls like the evil one and that is what sets me off. I will take the higher road that you have outlined and stop any recognition also. I also never want to appear as a see all-know all because down through the years I have been so wrong about prospects, trades, managers, that it would fill a book. Sports has been my life and that is what I do 365 days a year. Opinions make sports fun and consensus is difficult with exceptions. This spring training team is such smorgasbord of players that all opinions and insight are welcome here.

you guys need to watch an episode of Catfish on MTV because thats how I picture you all…. if you don’t know what that means then you would be the guy being the girl in the Te’o hoax………. lots of talk on here that is not related to the cubs….. and how is JOEY going to take care of me… he has NO POWER…

Congrats Mamma.

Mamma Mia – I truly appreciate ALL of your insights into the Cubs, their players, their chances of making the big team, any and all information that you are able to glean at Spring training and at any other time of the year. I can tell that you are a truly knowledgeable and observant person. It is a joy to be able to express our insights and opinions on this blog – when we disagree on things it is always fun to debate with others such as you and Joey and Isabel and Belgian, etc. I think we all have THE POWER to be respectful and polite to each other and to disagree at the same time. You are the best. By the way, have you had any more microwaved burgers lately? LOL

In-n-out close by and what-a-burger 2nd choice.
