3/6 Rangers 3, Cubs 2

Scott Hairston hit a solo home run and Brian Bogusevic added a RBI double but that was it for the Cubs as they lost 3-2 to the Rangers on Wednesday. Hisanori Takahashi took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits over three innings in his first Cactus League start. The Cubs are considered Takahashi for a spot in the bullpen as a long relief man. Right now, James Russell is the only lefty set for the ‘pen. Hector Rondon, the Rule 5 Draft pick, had another good outing. In four games, he has given up two hits and struck out two over four innings.

5 1/2 straight losses. 1/2 = split squad loss Are the Cubs already in midseason form?

Oh I sure hope not! Some of the guys are looking really good but some are a bit of a disappointment so far. I am more concerned about the pitching than anything else. I don’t think Spring Training is structured to be a win-win situation. More a trying out for positions, testing the new players, nailing down the best for each position, experiment with their batting stances, etc. That being said I imagine this is true for each team and our losses are a bit disconserting but not the end of 2013 hopes.

Yes, you’re right, White, on so many counts. And spring training counts for little. But as you say, other teams are going through the same experiments and warm-ups. Good teams win when they make mistakes or aren’t at full strength. I hope the pitching staff quickly doesn’t prove it’s been pulled together only with sticks and twine. We will know April 1. Go Cubs.

were you expecting anything more???
