3/8 Cubs vs Reds, ppd rain

The Cubs’ game Friday night against the Reds was called after 1 1/2 innings because of rain. Scott Hairston hit a solo homer with two outs in the first, but it doesn’t count in the spring stats. Nick Struck started for Chicago and gave up a sacrifice fly and also committed a throwing error as he threw to second for an attempted pick off — but there was no one covering second. The game will not be made up.

On Saturday, the Cubs play host to the Indians at HoHoKam Stadium in Mesa. Brooks Raley will get the start and be followed by Alberto Cabrera. Here’s the early lineup:

DeJesus CF
Baez SS
Castillo C
Schierholtz RF
Hairston DH
Valbuena 3B
Chavez LF
Nelson 1B
Watkins 2B

* Looking ahead, Scott Feldman will face Jason Marquis and the Padres on Sunday at HoHoKam.

Been a fan of alberto cabrera for several years. He needs to step up with a good outing tomorrow. A good kid with confidence as he told me 3 yrs ago that he would replace Marmol. Injury has interfered but healthy now so time to show out.

Jason Marquis was a tough cub who was never an ace but could eat up 200 innings a year. Every club needs that and edwin jackson should be our man this year

Great article by carrie with baez being thrown to the wolves–sort of–by playing a b game and then the s.t. game. He talks matter of fact about the abilities of big time pitching. This kid with talent on loan from above needs to see :spin on balls: and not just the daily diet of minor league fastballs. Credit to Dale that he recognizes this very confident kid needs the mlb diet at position and hitting before riding the buses this summer. Be patient Baez because I will not get to see you play for free much longer and that is a good thing.
