3/10 Cubs 9, Padres 3
Alfonso Soriano hit a two-run double and scored on Dioner Navarro’s home run in the sixth inning to lift the Cubs to a 9-3 victory Sunday over the Padres. Jorge Soler hit a solo home run and Christian Villanueva added a two-run shot, both coming in a five-run eighth.
The Cubs trailed 2-0 in the sixth against Tim Stauffer when Travis Wood and David DeJesus both singled. Two outs later, Soriano lined a double to left and Navarro then connected on his second spring home run. Wood followed Scott Feldman, and gave up one hit and walked three over four scoreless innings, striking out six.
With one out in the Chicago eighth, Soler launched his first spring home run. J.C. Boscan added a RBI single, Steve Clevenger hit a sacrifice fly, and Villanueva hit his home run. Villanueva, who has been getting more playing time because of injuries to third basemen Ian Stewart and Josh Vitters, now has three hits this spring, and all three have been home runs.

Cubs win!!! Travis Wood looking good. I know that many fans want to see the last of Soriano, and I understand their concern for his age, etc., BUT he seems to be the one who gets things started when the chips are down. And Valbueno is going to have to step up at 3rd as he has been since we don’t seem to have many healthy 3rd basemen left right now.
Woo Hoo for Soriano!!! He hustled and scored ALL THE WAY FROM SECOND BASE…on a home run. Let’s just hope some scouts from the Yankees noticed…and Chashman, who wants nothing to do with Soriano’s last two years concedes to the Steinbrenners and makes Hoystein any kind of offer what-so-ever for The Mighty, Cutch, World Series Maker….Soriano!!! Woo Hoo, go Alfonso!!!!
Cashman broke his leg and Granderson has a fx. arm. Teixeira has stewarted up his right wrist and Rodriguez is out with Jeter coming back from ankle fx. So how many rbi and homeruns have they lost–yet they ignore our gold glove –springtime hitting sensation who we will even pay his salary for them. why
Ha ha, good one Mamma….he is ignored because teams have not yet become DESPERATE ENOUGH to take on one of the most lopsided, ill-conceieved contracts in baseball history that to this day remains haunting all of Cubdom. Thank you Jim Hendry
damn…you almost gave me a heart attack. talking about Sorry-a-no and “Gold Glove” is NOT good for your health
