The Cubs travel to Surprise Wednesday night to face the Royals in their next to last game in Arizona. Scott Feldman will get the start. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Arizona time. Starlin Castro was scratched because he’s headed to New York to be with his girlfriend, who is expecting the couple’s first child. Here’s the lineup:

DeJesus CF
Clevenger 3B
Rizzo 1B

Yardbarker shows the top ten third basemen as Freese (Cardinals), Beltre (Rangers), Longoria (Rays), Wright (Mets), Zimmerman (Nationals), Ramirez (Brewers–remember him?), Sandoval (Giants), Headley (Padres), Lawrie (Blue Jays), and Alvarez (Pirates). Aside from the Cardinals (who won’t help us), are there any players playing behind these stars at Triple A, on the bench, or playing out of position that we could go after to get more offense at 3B???

I am sure there is Dan, the question is, what would they cost? The Cubs have two very good looking 3B prospects in Christian Villanueva at AA this year and Jeimer Candalaria at A.
So then the question would be, what do you give up for a AAA prospect with no ML experience, when you may have a guy like Villanueva up at the end of the year.
If they could have gotten Castellanos from Detroit or Olt from Texas, it might have been worth a trade.
The Cubs are doing a great job rebuliding, it will take time.

I agree Jasper, as far as the Minor league system is concerned the Cubs/Theo are producing and all we need do is get through another season or two of major league “warm bodies” and then let the kids shine and grabe some PREMIER free agent pitching.

yes the problem is 3B is such a bad talent class in the MLB that its driving up the price of the young 3B with POTENTIAL. CV could turn out to be good but we got to remember we won’t “hit” on every prospect. Odds are one of CV and JC pan out… possibly NEITHER pan out. I do like the CV and JC though
