4/1 Cubs Opening Day roster

Darwin Barney was placed on the 15-day DL on Monday, and infielder Alberto Gonzalez added to the Opening Day roster. To make room on the 40-man for Gonzalez, pitcher Robert Whitenack was designated for assignment. The Cubs also selected contracts of left-handed pitcher Hisanori Takahashi and infielder Brent Lillibridge. The club’s 40-man roster now stands at 40 players. Also, note the new uni numbers for Dioner Navarro, Carlos Villanueva, and Travis Wood. Dale Sveum now will wear No. 4.

Is Cubs.com aware that there is no longer a DSL #2 ? They now have a team in the VSL.

OMG BARNEY! 15 DAY!? …wow you’re jersey number too, how ironic… But thats too long for me! Please get better soon! Don’t worry I’ve been praying for you! <3

I AM WRITING THIS IN CAPS BECAUSE I AM SO SAD THAT BARNEY IS ON THE DL. HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR OPENING DAY FOR MONTHS AND NOW I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER TWO WEEKS TO SEE MY GUY PLAY. HEAL QUICKLY AND WELL DAR!!!

Is a pity that Darwin injured his person in a meaningless exhibition contest. Is big reason I dislike Spring training. Now we have to endure the loss of a gamer for two weeks or more. On a lighter note, I Googled Dioner Navarro and the description of his proclivity to switch hit is listed as the following: bats: ambidextrous. It reminds myself of Yogi Berra`s comment about a player back in the day who was proficient from both the right and left side. Yogi said the man was amphibious.

Well jhosk you might as well get used to 162 more meaningless, spring training games because that’s all 2013 will pan out to be and I think we can all count on Barney going all out, risking personal injury to himself regardless if the Cubs win 60-70 wins. We are assured however that Soriano will be baseball-defense-related injury free at the trade deadline which will increase the chance of a trade. Not bashing, just saying Soriano IS NOWHERE NEAR THE LEVEL OF DEFENSIVE INTENSITY as Barney is….ok… a LITTLE bashing but White told me to bring it on!!
(sorry)

Mamma and joey, In today`s USA Today all the major league baseball salaries are published. Soriano will be getting an obscene $19 mil. Actually Navarro is well paid for a journeyman backstop: $1.75 mil. Here`s what I found baffling: Barney is underpaid at $462,000, and Liilibridge is getting almost 200 grand more than Barney. That makes no sense. Any thoughts?

jhosk, Lillibridge making more than Barney is laughable and confirms my notion that Hoystein created a dilemma by trading Colvin and LeMeue to the Rockies, forcing him to over spend for the lesser talented Lillibridge and Schierholtz. I believe Hoystein was so fixated on ‘THE THIRD BASE PROBLEM” (loss of Ramirez) that he over-prioritized that position and neglected the just as troubling RF problem…NOW we have a huge third base, RF and bench problem that’s eating up more payroll dollars than DJ and Colvin would be eating up. Not good so far for Hoystien, the minor leagues look more promising but better pay off within the next two years or Lucy will have some splainin’ to do.

Haha. I am not a child -.- LOL

Happy for Byrd. Ha ha ,I think were going to have a lot of fun this year.

That`s funny. Barney`s salary is actually $562,000, but it does not change my basic argument; just makes it less likely that Barney will become homeless or miss any dinners.

Nope! He has to pay “child support” to Isabel and “senior citizen” support to White!. So, yes, the poor guy is broke!!!
