4/2 Double-A Tennessee roster

Double-A Tennessee announced its 2013 Opening Day roster on Tuesday. The Smokies will have 17 players who have played in Tennessee and five who will be making their Double-A debut. Among the pitchers are Alberto Cabrera, ranked No. 19 on MLB.com’s top 20 Cubs prospects list, and Trey McNutt. They’ll be joined by Frank Batista, Dallas Beeler, Marcus Hatley, Eric Jokisch, Dae-Eun Rhee, Kevin Rhoderick, Zac Rosscup, Brian Schlitter, Tony Zych, Kyle Hendricks and A.J. Morris.

Christian Villanueva, No. 8 on the Cubs’ top 20 list, will be joined by infielders Arismendy Alcantera, Justin Bour, Jonathan Mota, Elliot Soto and Anthony Giansanti. Bour hit 17 home runs with 110 RBIs in 2012 for the Smokies. Cubs’ 2011 Draft pick Rafael Lopez will share catching duties with Jair Fernandez, who was signed by the Cubs in the offseason.

The outfielders include Jae-Hoon Ha, Rubi Silva and Matt Szczur, all returnees. Ha batted .273 with 47 RBIs in 121 games in 2012. Johermyn Chavez, who signed with the Cubs in the offseason after spending time with the Mariners’ Double-A Jackson Generals, also will be on the Smokies’ roster.

Tennessee opens the season Thursday at Pensacola.
