4/16 Minor matters

Ryan Sweeney had two hits, including a third-inning, three-run homer as Iowa lost 11-5 to Albuquerque on Monday. Drew Carpenter took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. Darwin Barney went 4-for-5 with a double in the third and final game of his rehab assignment.

Rubi Silva had three hits, including his second home run, and drove in four runs, but Tennessee lost, 8-7, to Huntsville. Jae-Hoon Ha had two hits, including a double, and Jonathan Mota had two hits.

Ben Wells threw six shutout innings, giving up five hits, as Daytona beat Clearwater, 8-1. Zeke DeVoss had two hits and three RBIs, and Ben Carhart had three hits and one RBIs. On Monday, pitcher Ryan Searle was named Florida State League pitcher of the week. In two bullpen appearances, he gave up three hits and struck out 10 over 8 1/3 innings. He picked up the win in relief on April 5.

Kane County’s game against Beloit was postponed because of rain. The two teams were to play a doubleheader Tuesday.

* The Smokies announced right-hander Matt Loosen has been added to the active roster from extended Spring Training, and Dae-Eun Rhee has been placed on the disabled list. Rhee, 24, was 1-0 with a 0.87 ERA, giving up one earned run over 10 1/3 innings.

Could Sweeney be the sleeper pick up Hoystein desperatly needs? They MUST be thinking…..”if only we could move Soriano”. Sveum MUST be thinking….If only Soriano could be moved”. Soriano MUST be thinking…..”Thanks Jim!”
