4/24 Cubs lineup

There are a few changes in the Cubs’ lineup for Wednesday’s game, although weather may affect the contest. Anthony Rizzo was dropped from third to fourth, Luis Valbuena is starting at second, and Cody Ransom gets another start at third base against Reds right-hander Mat Latos. Wednesday also will be Alfonso Soriano’s first day off with Julio Borbon getting the start in left. The forecast calls for rain. We’ll see. Here’s the lineup:

DeJesus CF
Borbon LF
Castro SS
Rizzo 1B
Schierholtz RF
Navarro C
Valbuena 2B
Ransom 3B
Samardzija P

Jeff Samardzija is four strikeouts away from making the top 10 list of Cubs pitchers for all-time single season K total for the month of April. Samardzija enters Wednesday’s game with 31 strikeouts; Rich Harden and Ken Holtzman are at No. 10 on the list with 35 each. Samardzija is fifth in the NL in strikeouts.

Finally. But…what are we going to do without our best base stealer? Oh my!!

Wait a minute! Could Soriano have been pulled early from last night’s game not because of his superhuman base stealing performance winded him BUT because a trade is looming? THAT’s why he is not in today’s line up, because he is on a plane? Oh be still my beating heart. Eh, a daydream no doubt but fun to think about it being real!!

don’t get your hopes up

This rain issue is promising. Is an avenue to dodge another loss. When do we play other bottom feeders like ourselves? We can be competitive vs. the Padres, Marlins, etc.

You folk who were critical of the Cody Ransom signing may eat crow. He looked excellent last night, and we would have lost sans his presence in lineup.

Ransom is one of the more logical pickups to date, nothing wrong with having him on this particular team, which is screaming for ANY kind of offense from third base.
