5/8 Gregg now closer

The Cubs are no longer going with a closer by committee. Kevin Gregg has won the job. Gregg is 5-for-5 in save situations since he joined the Cubs April 15. The right-hander was in the Dodgers’ Spring Training camp, then released on April 3. He signed with the Cubs on April 14.

“The problems we had, it was a great, great pickup and he’s ran with it, and done a heck of a job,” Dale Sveum said of Gregg, who has replaced Carlos Marmol, who was replaced by Kyuji Fujikawa. “[Gregg] is a veteran guy who doesn’t panic. He’s been in those situations before. Those last three outs aren’t made for everybody. He throws strikes and has some life on his fastball. He can work both sides of the plate, that’s the good thing about it.”

Marmol began the season as the Cubs closer but was removed after the first week of games. Fujikawa took over, but then went on the disabled list April 13 with a strained right forearm. Fujikawa was to make his second Minor League rehab outing on Wednesday and rejoin the Cubs in Washington this weekend.

So, is Gregg the Cubs’ closer?

“He seems to be,” Sveum said. “Gregg’s our closer. That’s pretty much the way it is right now. He’s obviously earned it and there’s a bigger sample out there now to know that.”

Mea culpa! I was critical of the Gregg signing. I was wrong. I give the man his props. I have news of a Felix Pie sighting. Cubs fans will recall he was once property of our team. He toils for the Indianapolis Indians of West division of international league. Pie played last night vs. Scranton/Wilkes Barre where myself is domiciled. He was 3 for 5. I for one once had high hopes of Felix helping our club. He’s now property of Pirates.

Yeah, jhosk I too had high hopes for Pie “the five tool player”. A shame he went the Corey Patterson, Jerome Walton route…

That’s interesting, Mamma. Was my recollection also that Pie was once regarded as a “can’t miss” prospect. Would be interested in your opinion of Barney’s issues, Mamma.

he sucks… but will continue to get the strokes from the homers on here

Jhosk didn’t ask your opinion, Petrey. He asked. Mamma Mia. We all know your opinion that Barney SUCKS. Do you need to keep repeating it? We heard you. Now catch a breath and move on.

Omg Barney does NOT suck! Like how can you say that? All players have their time where they just need some rest and recoperate. Now maybe this is Barney’s time! Gosh…Sorry Petrey that not everyone is perfect..

Isabel, don’t let him get to you. You should be expecting such foul, vulgar and immature language from HWSRN. While the rest of us keep both our negative and positive comments free from such gutter speak HWSRN revels in it due to his hateful and spiteful nature. YOU are still THE JOY to this blog and Barney is still a GREAT fielder despite his current hitting woes. Now, of all the other Cub players not ONE is GREAT at any of their attributes (well….maybe Russell?). Barney is the only Cub that is GREAT at SOMETING…right??? And he has the Gold Glove to prove it. RIGHT!!!

Well I never needed that Gold Glove to prove that he was a very great player! I always knew that!🙂 Haha, but I do think he is super happy that he got it. It might just be a little memory for him that all his practice and hard work was for something! For me, it’s just to show that I believed in someone that I knew already, how talented he was❤🙂
