6/5 Extra bases

Matt Garza takes the mound Wednesday night to close the Cubs’ brief West Coast trip to Anaheim. This will be Garza’s fourth start. He picked up the win in his last game, a 7-2 win over the Diamondbacks. In his career, Garza is 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA in four starts against the Angels.

* The Cubs have a winning record (21-20) when scoring at least three runs in a game this season and are 14-5 when they score five. They are 1-28 when allowing at least four runs.

* The Cubs are batting .269 (261-for-971) in 29 home games, 47 points higher than their .222 average (206-for-928) in 27 road games. They have an .809 OPS at home, 194 points higher than their .615 OPS on the road. The .809 OPS is the best home mark in the National League and third-best in the Majors. The .615 OPS on the road is the lowest OPS in all of baseball.

Just imagine how many more 3 and 5 run games we would have had if we had a legit clean up hitter instead of the coddled Soriano with all his “less than Colvin-like” numbers.

I know not what others may be watching, but I see a bad ballclub from every angle. Maybe that “brilliant” front office can promise wonderous results in the future, but they also signed Edwin Jackson.
