7/7 Minor matters
Jake Arrieta gave up one run on one hit and walked two in one inning in his Cubs debut for Triple-A Iowa in the first game of a doubleheader against Albuquerque. Logan Watkins had two hits and Junior Lake scored a run in a 10-3 loss. In the second game, Barret Loux gave up one run over six innings and took the loss, 1-0. Loux struck out six and walked four.
In his first at-bat with Double-A Tennessee, Javier Baez hit a solo home run, but it wasn’t enough as the Smokies lost, 8-2. Baez, who hit 17 home runs for Class A Daytona, hit his first Double-A home run on his first swing. Austin Kirk (1-3) took the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits. Christian Villanueva also homered for the Smokies, his 11th.
Pierce Johnson threw five shutout innings in Daytona’s 6-5 win over Dunedin. Zeke DeVoss had three hits and three RBIs. Johnson struck out five and scattered five hits.
Jose Rosario gave up five runs over five innings in Kane County’s 5-0 loss to Quad Cities.
Jacob Rogers hit his third home run and Dan Lockhart had two hits but it wasn’t enough as Boise lost, 5-3, to Tri City. James Pugliese took the loss, giving up five runs over five innings.
Rashad Crawford had two hits, two stolen bases and one RBIs in Mesa’s 11-4 loss to the Rangers.
