7/8 Cubs, Bryant still talking

Friday is the deadline for the Cubs and first-round Draft pick Kris Bryant to finalize a deal. Bryant is one of five first-round picks who remain unsigned, joining Colin Moran (Marlins); Phil Bickford (Blue Jays); Hunter Renfroe (Padres); and Aaron Judge (Yankees).

“There’s no update,” GM Jed Hoyer said Monday. “We basically have four or five days left of discussions. We’re confident we’ll get it done. We’ll make it an exceptionally fair offer. If Kris wants to be a Cub and be a professional baseball player, I’m confident we’ll get a deal done. Sometimes it takes a deadline to make a deal, and we have a deadline coming up shortly. In a lot of ways, I think it’s a plus at this point.”

Bryant was the second player taken overall in the June First-Year Player Draft. The third baseman starred at San Diego, hitting 31 home runs, and was named College Player of the Year.

According to BasballAmerica’s ratings before the draft, there were only 3 real top players available in this years draft. All 3 went 1, 2, 3. Bryant is the one Theo and Hoyer choose. If they don’t sign him the entire Cubs 2013 chooses are just a pig in a poke. Come on guys get him signed, make the 2013 draft a worth while one.

Bryant would be dumb not to take the deal… he is not going to gain much money by going back to school and the greater possibility is his draft stock drops and he LOSES BIG TIME…. this deal will get done

This deal will get done, I have no doubt, as the Cubs can`t afford not to. Is too much invested in the pick. But Boras will be sure to drag it out until close to deadline and Cubs will overpay, as that is how the intractable and gluttonous Scott Boras operates.
