7/8 Hairston to Nats

The Cubs have reportedly dealt outfielder Scott Hairston to the Nationals for a Minor League pitcher.

FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported the deal Sunday night. Hairston, 33, signed a two-year, $5 million deal in the offseason, and has been part of a platoon in right field but has gotten limited playing time. He did not have a single at-bat on the Cubs’ just completed nine-game road trip. On Sunday, he delivered a pinch-hit home run.

The Cubs would not confirm the report.

Hairston was batting .172 overall, and .179 against left-handers with eight home runs and 18 RBIs.

The Cubs have been busy in the last week, dealing Scott Feldman, Carlos Marmol, Steve Clevenger and now Hairston. More deals are expected leading up to the July 31 Trade Deadline.

OK hOPE IT’S A MINOR LEAGUE PITCHER WITH SOME MAJOR LEAGUE PROMISE, NOT JUST ANOTHER GO NO WHERE. NOW GET BRYANT INKED IN, BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE.

Bryant will get done… patience is needed tho…. I think the most you could see in return is another rehab project type pitcher with some upside tho

and actually just saw that the pitcher is Ivan Pineryo in A+ and has a decent fastball but needs work on his offspeed… its a decent deal for a crappy player in Hairston… PTBNL could still be there on both sides

I dont know that Hairston was a crappy player, maybe not enough At Bats, but Ivan Pineryo ia a very good return. Looks like a high K kinda guy.

well i don’t what you would call him but he hasn’t been an average Major Leaguer since 2009 and only was AVERAGE for two years…. 7.3 WAR in 10 years as a MLer…… sorry but thats not very good and fits the “crappy” title in my book…
