7/9 Minor matters
Chris Rusin gave up two runs on four hits over six innings in Iowa’s 5-2 win over New Orleans. Luis Flores had two hits, including his fourth home run and a double. Brad Nelson had three hits and two RBIs and Logan Watkins had two hits, both doubles, and one RBIs. Brian Schlitter converted his 10th save.
Kyle Hendricks gave up two runs on two hits over five innings in Tennessee’s 2-0 loss to Huntsville in the first game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Huntsville scored three runs in the eighth to post a 6-3 win over the Smokies. Justin Bour hit his eighth home run and Rubi Silva had two hits and stole two bases.
Matt Loosen may have had the game of the year, throwing a no-hitter in Daytona’s 7-0 win over Dunedin. Loosen struck out nine and walked two. It was Daytona’s first no-hitter since Aug. 24, 1996, when Kerry Wood combined with two other pitchers to no-hit Vero Beach. In his last three starts, Loosen has given up one earned run over 27 innings. Bijan Rademacher hit a home run and drove in two runs.
Kane County’s game against Quad Cities was postponed because of rain. Tuesday is an off day for the Cougars.
David Bote hit his third home run in Boise’s 11-3 win over Tri-City. Dae-Eun Rhee got the start and gave up two hits over three innings. Shawon Dunston and Yasiel Balaguert each had two hits.
