7/11 Minor matters

Brad Nelson had three hits and his team-leading 54th RBI in Iowa’s 6-5 loss to New Orleans. Nick Struck gave up three earned runs over five innings and took the loss. Donnie Murphy had two hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Arismendy Alcantara, who will play in the All-Star Futures Game, had three hits and one RBIs in Tennessee’s 7-2 win over Jackson in the first game of a doubleheader. Justin Bour also had three hits and two RBIs. P.J. Francescon picked up the win, pitching three innings of relief. In the second game, Eric Jokisch gave up two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a 5-2 victory. Rubi Silva and Alcantara each homered. Alcantara’s was a three-run shot.

Dustin Geiger hit his 10th home run in Daytona’s 7-6 loss to Lakeland. Zach Cates did not get a decision. He gave up two runs over seven innings.

Jeimer Candelario hit a home run and drove in two runs in Kane County’s 7-2 loss to South Bend. Albert Almora extended his hitting streak to four games with two hits, including a double.

Jose Dore hit his first home run, a two-run shot, in Boise’s 6-5 loss to Vancouver. Shawon Dunston had two hits.

Marcos Mateo threw one inning in Mesa’s 14-2 romp over the Padres. Zak Blair and Yasiel Balaguert each had two hits. Mateo, who was on a rehab assignment, was assigned to Tennessee along with catcher Lance Rymel. Also, Smokies catcher Chad Noble was promoted to Triple-A Iowa. Mateo, 29, rejoins Tennessee where he spent parts of the 2009 and 2010 seasons with the Smokies. The right-handed pitcher is coming off an injury that caused him to miss the entire 2012 season.

Nice to see Chad Noble promoted to AAA. A catcher drafted in the 37th round in 2010.
My question would be, is he doing that well or does the AAA club just in a pinch for catching help?
Looking at his stats, he only caught 22 games at AA with a 250 AVG with a 275 OBP. Hardley number deserving of a promotion??

Could they be….rushing him????????? Hard to believe a player would be promoted just because the higher club is in NEED……what a concept.

That comment right there shows your brilliance when it comes to, behind the scenes baseball knowledge. I commend you.

o ya thats exactly what they are doing… rushing a 25 yr catcher…. BRILLIANT! Glad you could chime in and give us your wealth of… well im trying to be nice so I won’t say it

Noble was promoted because Iowa catcher needed to go on paternity leave.

Thank you Carrie.

thank you carrie
