7/15 Bogusevic hurt

Outfielder Brian Bogusevic had to leave Sunday’s game after he re-aggravated a sore left hamstring. He injured it on July 4 in Oakland, then returned to game action seven days later. The Cubs are already short-handed with David DeJesus (sprained right shoulder), and Ryan Sweeney (fractured ribs). They claimed Cole Gillespie off waivers from the Giants on Saturday, and he played Sunday, becoming the 43rd Cubs player in the first half, a franchise record. The Cubs will have a better idea about Bogusevic’s status on Friday, when they resume play against the Rockies.

Sorry to hear that Bogusevic is hurting again. Hope it is short term. Cole Gillespie can certainly be used at this point. Borbon and Sappelt have been disappointing and I would like to see Cole being given the spot EVEN though he is already being called a “bum” on another site. His first at bat at Wrigley was a hit so let’s see what else the “bum” can do.

It’s starting to look like the scrap heap on our bench is less than what lil’ Tony and his .264 (2012) ba could have given us off the bench. Sweeney seems like a legit hitter but the rest? Bogusevic, Sappelt, Borbon, Gillespie….. mmm…. not much happening with this bunch, if none of them HIT the snot out of the ball they bring little else to the game. At least Tony and his .263 ba (right around Soriano’s!! duh) had tremendous speed and base stealing ability allowing more uses than just hitting. AZ released him after going 3 for 10 didn’t they? How about another go around with the Cubs?

He`s batting .1000 with us, White. How can anyone be critical of that stat? Give the man an opportunity, is my humble view.

Hi joey – I am still trying to recoup from the other night’s game! Even though we lost it was pretty darn exciting . I miss little Tony because he was such fun to watch but doubt that we will ever see him again at Wrigley. Since you don’t think any of the outfield guys we have now are “keepers” who would you like to see coming up right now?

Well I do think Sweeney should be retained for a few years bridging the gap to Soler and Almora…what? 2-3 years maybe? With Soriano hopefully departing by year’s end, Schierholtz the same and Dejesus a possible trade candidate later this year or next I would still like to see Sczuzr brought up later this year. Should not be a lot of pressure for the kid to follow Jackson who failed miserably and the likes of Bogusevic, Sappelt, Borbon and now Gillespie should be reason enough to finally think outside of the box and bring him up even if a little sooner than originally thought.
just as they did with Castro.
