8/5 Cubs claim Neal

The Cubs claimed outfielder Thomas Neal off waivers from the Yankees on Monday. To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Rafael Dolis was transferred to the 60-day disabled list. Neal, 25, batted .325 with 17 doubles, two home runs and 29 RBI in 72 games with the Yankees’ Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre affiliate. He played primarily the corner outfield spots. The Yankees designated him for assignment on Aug. 2.

A right-handed hitter, Neal was originally selected by the Giants in the 36th round of the 2005 Draft. He was acquired by the Indians at the 2011 trade deadline for Orlando Cabrera. Called up to the Majors last Sept. 1, he batted .217 (5-for-23) with one double and two RBI in nine games. He has batted .206 (7-for-34) in 13 Major League games covering the last two seasons with the Indians and Yankees.

Dolis has been on the DL since June 1 with a right forearm strain.

This could be a very good pick up, only 25, .325 Average with a .391 OBP at AAA. Dont know why the Yankees would just let him go?? Hope Sveum gives the young man some regular time and see how he does.

I agree with you, Jasper. Have seen him play at AAA and he has potential.

jhosk, also looks like he shows a flash of power now & then.

So the Yankees kept Lillibridge over Neal…….wait!…..Lillibridge just got waived………..August…..the time of the baseball season where teams tell aging fringe players time to look for a new career.

Hope to see Neil in the line up tonight.
