8/8 Smokies roster moves

Double-A Tennessee announced some roster moves Thursday. Catcher Taylor Davis has been activated from the disabled list and placed on the Smokies active roster. In a corresponding roster move, catcher Chad Noble was promoted to Triple-A Iowa. Right-hander Kyle Hendricks has was promoted to Iowa and was scheduled to start Thursday. Noble, 25, makes his second trip to Iowa this season. In 28 games with the Smokies, he batted .242. He was a 37th round pick in 2010 out of Northwestern. Hendricks, 23, was 10-3 with a 1.85 ERA (26 ER/126 1/3 IP) in 21 starts for the Smokies. Originally drafted in the eighth round by the Rangers, the California native was traded to the Cubs, along with Christian Villanueva, for Ryan Dempster in 2012.

What a great story it would be to see Hendricks and Aretta make the rotation this September, confirming the good job Hoystein is doing.

I like Hendricks` upside. He posted impressive numbers at Kodiak.

I’m thinking he, Wood, Samardzjida, Arietta, Villenueva and Russin might comprise the starting 5 next season until some trades come along or all above prove themselves. But I kind of like those five considering we will be under at least one more season of rebuilding. What do you think jhosk?

Like it or not, you’d have to include Edwin Jackson in the Cubs rotation for 2014. With three years left on his deal, they’re probably not going to find anyone willing to take him just yet, so the Cubs are probably stuck with him for at least another year. As fans, let’s just hope he has a strong finish to the season and either make himself a trade target this off-season or decent enough to fill in the back end of the rotation in 2014.

Doh! I forgot about Jackson!! (He is somewhat forgettable, but still serviceable, still young…)
OK, More than likely I see Villenueva being traded any way or put back in the bull pen so Jackson can take his spot.

Jackson could actually be the 5th man in the rotation or long man out of the bullpen come 2015. By then there should be some very young arms and not a thing in the world wrong with some veteran leadership.
As Jhosk mentions above, Hendricks looks real this year, solid prospect not even mentioned in the top 20. Before Hendricks AAA performance last night, he had a couple AA team mates starting and doing very well this year also.

I think we are at the onset of seeing the FO’s hard work pay off! Next season will be the most interesting to date since the “Boston Take Over”! We may even see a few FA signings in order to position ourselves for a test run in 2015!!! GO CUBS! The excitement is coming back and due in large part to the young PITCHERS on the way and no longer the likes of Castro or Rizzo, two players that BETTER improve next year to help out the up and coming rookies!!!!

I approve that analysis. Is the most optimistic you`ve been in a long while, joey.
