8/12 Sneak attack

Tampa third baseman Evan Longoria successfully caught Juan Uribe off guard with a hidden ball trick recently. Do the Cubs have such a play in their repertoire?

“No,” manager Dale Sveum said Monday. “It wouldn’t be a trick if I told you it.”

Do the infielders talk about trying to catch someone day dreaming on the bases?

“I don’t know — maybe,” said Sveum, not wanting to reveal any secrets.

“That wasn’t a play [the Rays] had, they were throwing the ball around,” Sveum said. “Everybody does it. People just don’t walk off the base. Everybody does it — if you watch in the course of the game, somebody will toss the ball over and sit and wait and then toss the ball back.”

Ha! Sveum isn’t even good enough for the team to HAVE a repertoire…
