Dae-Eun Rhee gave up two runs over seven innings in Tennessee’s 9-2 win over Birmingham. Javier Baez had three hits for his 10th multi-hit game of the month. He’s batting .397 in August with 11 doubles, three home runs and 17 RBIs. Arismendy Alcantara had two hits, including a solo home run. Rubi Silva had three hits and two RBIs.

Daytona had the day off, and resumes action Tuesday against Dunedin. Ben Wells was slated to start. Kris Bryant was named Florida State League player of the week for Aug. 12-18. He batted .360 in seven games with three home runs and five RBIs.

Jeimer Candelario had two hits, including a double, in Kane County’s 9-2 loss to Clinton. Rock Shoulders had two RBIs.

Duane Underwood gave up three runs, none earned, over 4 1/3 innings in Boise’s 6-3 loss to Tri-City.

Charcer Burks and Jeffrey Baez each had two hits in Mesa’s 5-4 loss to the Athletics.

Boy, is Baez making a case…..

AA and below is starting to get very competitive. Of course not all are going to make it, but there are that select few making those around them better also.
Almora and Soler have had disappointing seasons with the injuries, hopefully they get them out of the way.

Agreed. Very nice to see the DEPTH and the quantity of promising players. Not putting all our eggs in one basket is a nice change of pace. The surprises are the best kind of players. Who knows, maybe there are some kids that will now leapfrog the much talked about Soler and Almora? Of course I am hoping for those two to catapult but with the focus on them a few others may sneak up on all of us. It’s all good in the minors, great work by the new regime.
