9/4 Cubs lineup

Lefty Brian Flynn makes his Major League debut on Wednesday for the Marlins in the series finale against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Cubs have stacked their lineup with right-handed hitters. Jeff Samardzija will start for the Cubs, making his team-leading 29th start. He is 2-1 with a 4.62 ERA in his career vs. the Fish. The Cubs are 10-25 (.286) in their last 35 games starting July 29. They have won two of their last four games, but have lost 12 of their last 17 games overall, while dropping 19 of their last 24 home games

Here’s the lineup:

Castro SS
Barney 2B
Rizzo 1B
Navarro C
Murphy 3B
Lake CF
McDonald LF
Gillespie RF
Samardzija P

This is a winning lineup. It has won us games before and it will today. GO CUBBIES!

“stacked” and “hitters” may be pushing it….

The “fish” is on target. I suspect these are the kinds of lineup’s we are going to see thru the end of the season. It didn’t help last night did it?

This is a different lineup than yesterday ‘s AND it has been a winning one!

The relentless platooning of lefty/righty/lefty/righty by Sveum is sooooooo old. Hasn’t worked all year. Sveum would throw a hitter in the line up based solely upon which side of the plate he swings the bat and not based upon hitting ability. (and this team saw no value in Campana and his .260 ba with amazing speed??). Amazing he hasn’t platooned Valbuena and Barney on a regular basis. A platoon works well when BOTH players HIT WELL….Gillespie .240?
MCDONALD .200??? YIKES. Really? Who wouldn’t want to take our chances with Schierholtz (even though he does not have a good ba vs. lefties either…), or Sweeney rather than MCDONALD? SVEUM MUST BE GOING AFTER NEXT YEAR’S DRAFT PICK.

Is it just me, because it seems every time Samardzija averages more than 1k per IP, he stinks and gives up a bunch of runs (as in 4+). I love the Shark, but I am starting to wonder about his head, that’s that lump three feet above his @$$ (League of Their Own quote). Is his head getting in the way of him succeeding, I am sadly starting to think so….
