9/4 Minor matters

Tennessee begins the playoffs on Thursday, facing Birmingham in the best of five Southern League North Division Championship.

Corey Black threw five shutout innings and Kris Bryant delivered a two-run single to help Daytona beat Dunedin 6-1 in the first game of the best of three North Division playoff series. C.J. Edwards is scheduled to start Game 2 on Wednesday at Dunedin. Black, acquired from the Yankees in the Alfonso Soriano deal, struck out seven and walked one. Bryant had two hits, including his big single in a five-run sixth. Pin-Chieh Chen doubled in the first and scored on a wild pitch. Dan Vogelbach also had an RBI.

Paul Blackburn threw seven shutout innings in Boise’s 3-0 win over Salem-Keizer in the first game of the Northwest League playoffs. Game 2 of the best of three series is Wednesday. Kevin Encarnacion had three hits and scored two runs, and Yasiel Balaguert had three hits and two RBIs.

This is exciting, 3 of the Cubs Minor League teams are in the Playoffs. For the ones paying attention, this is really positive, great stuff.
The Playoff experience, the talent from each team that got them there. The names you see above that did really well. Corey Black ( Soriano Trade ) 5 IP, no runs, 7 K’s, 1 walk. Bryant (2013 2nd overall pick) 2 for 3, 2 RBI’s, and a walk.
At Boise Paul Blackburn ( 2012 56th overall draft Pick ) threw 7 shutout innings with 8 K’s, 0 walks. Kevin Encarnacion had an awesom year at Boise, (a non drafted FA) soon to be 22 y/o, hit .355 with an OBP of .431 for Boise this year.

I agree Jasper. THIS is what it’s all about. A very good sign for things to come for our ML team soon!!
