9/7 Boise beats Vancouver
Dillon Maples threw 6 1/3 shutout innings, striking out seven, to lead Boise to a 5-0 win over Vancouver. With the win, the Hawks are now one victory away from their seventh Northwest League pennant and first since 2004.
The Hawks scored in the third when Carlos Penalver tripled to lead off and eventually scored on Danny Lockhart’s groundout. Hitting coach Bill Buckner was ejected that inning after Kevin Encarnacion was called out on strikes. With two outs in the sixth, Rony Rodriguez hit a RBI single and David Bote smacked a two-run double, and Lance Rymel added a solo home run with one out in the seventh.
Boise can wrap up the series Sunday against Vancouver.
