9/11 Cubs lineup

Jeff Samardzija takes the mound Wednesday as the Cubs try to complete a sweep against the Reds at Great American Ball Park. Samardzija enters his career-high 30th start of the season with 190 strikeouts and 189 innings pitched. He is trying to become the first Cubs pitcher to reach both 200 strikeouts and 200 innings pitched since Ryan Dempster in 2010 (208 strikeouts, 215 1/3 innings pitched).

Entering today, Samardzija is in good company among those in all of baseball to have reached his current innings pitched and strikeout numbers. The only other six: Detroit’s Max Scherzer (215 strikeouts, 194 1/3 innings), St. Louis’ Adam Wainwright (195, 213 2/3), Los Angeles’ Clayton Kershaw (208, 216), Seattle’s Felix Hernandez (200, 194 1/3), the White Sox’ Chris Sale (207, 195 2/3) and Cincinnati’s Homer Bailey (190, 191 1/3).

* The Cubs already have 33 wins on the road this season, 10 more than their total number of victories away from Wrigley Field last year. They have gone 19-15 in their last 34 road games starting June 25 after starting the season 14-21 in their first 35 road games.

Here’s Wednesday’s lineup:

Castro SS
Valbuena 3B
Rizzo 1B
Schierholtz RF
Bogusevic LF
Lake CF
Castillo C
Barney 2B
Samardzija P

Sweep, sweep, sweep! Got my chores done! Now you Cubs do your sweeping for the day! Go Cubbies!

You got your chores done already???? BAKING TIME!!! :)

Yup! Come and get ‘em!! :))

Shark = our #1 pitcher end of story…. Wood = a lucky all star pick bc each team has to have one guy in the all star game….

ATTENTION EVERYBODY: We must now stop commenting regarding our opinions about Shark vs. Wood being the better pitcher. The story is evidently ENDED.
(Just when Sveum got it right too, as HE claimed Wood the best pitcher on the staff, oh well, he must not have consulted with the all wise, all knowing and all vain HWSRN….)

**THIS JUST IN** The Shark gives up a 3 run homer to somebody batting worse than Barney…guess the story has not ended after all people so disregard the demands of HWSRN and continue to comment if you so desire. The arrogance of HWSRN is palpable. Shark = uh….uh…….duh…..DOH!

This message is for Theo,
Go get Jim Edmunds to teach Lake how to judge a fly ball.

Not bad!! Better to have one of the BEST former center fielders teach our former infielder to play the outfield than one of the most forgettable hitters (deer) teaching our young guns to hit….how’s that working out for Castro, Rizzo and Barney? In fact, I’d rather have Edmonds be the outfield instructor AND the hitting coach! A man of many hats.

Our road record looks positively encouraging only when compared to the pathetic home record. The road record is still below .500. It looks as though we are not going to lose 100 games this season. Would need to lose all our remaining games to reach that nadir.

Well we were five outs from the world series, ten years ago, and in 1984 no one had ever lost the last three games of a five game series either. I would believe that you are correct, but I said we are to the world series!!, way back when, actually both times, and we know how that turned out…..

Well I did my sweeping and the Cubs —–? What’s with that? Terrible.

If Jim Edwards is the savior for the Cubs, then we are in a hell of a lot more trouble than I thought.

Who is Jim Edwards???

Jim Edwards is Jim Edmunds incognito. But moses and dafish great evaluation and would be much appreciated by many a cub fans. What a sweet and simple swing. He could really help Rizzo.
